If I remove "dtoverlay=imx708" I get an error with i2cdetect:

Sorry, should have said you need to add "dtparam=i2c_vc" instead, otherwise the I2C bus isn't enabled.

Is there a way to get a replacement?

You should be able to get one via whoever you bought it from.
