Maybe too late for you now, but PINN could be an option for you.
PINN is a small OS installer and boot selector that would live on your SSD.
In your case you would use PINN to install your OS (Raspios, LibreELEC etc) and a data partition for your media. You can set the size of your partitions so your media partition takes up whatever size you need.
PINN can be used to backup, restore or replace your OS leaving your media partition intact.
Once everything is setup, you can even make PINN disappear so you won't even know it's there until you need to upgrade/replace your OS.
