Interfacing (DSI, CSI, I2C, etc.) • Re: MTP in raspberry pi

"I am currently working with a Raspberry Pi 4, which is connected to my Linux laptop via a USB cable. I am transferring data between these two devices. After connecting and I modify data on my Raspberry Pi file through my laptop, the changes are not immediately reflected on the Raspberry Pi’s storage. To see the updated data, I have to unmount and then remount the Raspberry Pi’s storage on my laptop. My goal is to have any modifications made to the data on my laptop immediately reflected on the Raspberry Pi’s storage, without having to unmount and remount it. This should be similar to how data changes are immediately visible when a smartphone is connected to a computer. Please note that the connection between the Raspberry Pi and the laptop is strictly via USB cable, and not through any other network like SSH.

Yes, we know. You said that above.

We also know that RPiOS in its default state does not support acting as a USB device nor does it support MTP (except, perhaps, as the USB master when running the desktop).

Your description is lacking too much detail for us to be able to offer much help. As I said above "More precise information on what you've done and what your configuration is might help us help you.". You've just cut'n'npasted the vague information from before.

Tell us the following:
  • Which OS you are running on the Pi and its major release name (no, not the kernel version or the version number shown on the Pi's booting splash screen).
  • Which device is the USB master and which the slave?
  • Which device is acting as the MTP host (e.g as a PC) and which the device (e.g. as a phone or camera)
  • Which port on the PI you are connecting to which port on the laptop. With what cable and adaprer.
  • What software you are using on both the Pi and the laptop (No, MTP is not enough - that's a protocol not a piece of software)
  • What configuration changes you have made to the PI and in which files?
  • What storage type is the Pi using as the "target" for MTP? A partition? A directory on a mounted partition? A file being used as if it were a partition?
  • How you are mounting it on the Pi and with what options.
In the absense of the above, of access to both your devices, and of a fully functioning crystal ball no-one can offer more than they have already done.
