I think US figures are still about 40-50K/yr - which is about 120/day. US pop is about 6x UK, so that factors to about 20/day.
So, I'd say you're doing something right.

Anyway, this question of "Which is more important - loss of human life or disruption to global economies?" is a sticky one that comes up every time some disaster hits. Most recently in the US: the Baltimore Bridge disaster. But I won't say anymore about it here.
