You were running the desktop and a word processor on a system with only 512MB RAM (shared with the GPU) and the default 100MB swap?

That isn't going to work well if at all (as you found out).

You could try increasing swap (search the forum and the web) but it'll still be slow as a modern desktop and applications simply need more RAM.

Increasing swap space (to, say, 2GB) should amke hangs less likeyl but won't improve performance. It will also increase wear on the SD card.

And before you ask, no you can't add more RAM.
i added swap space to 2gb (max) and it works more well but i think it needs overclock to all components
