I'm going to have 15w of FR over 1.5m *0.5m should be interesting to see how that lights it upThose tiny little IR illuminators will do very little beyond probably 1m.
I've used them with a Pi2B set up as a camera trap with a Camera Module v2.1 NoIR, and a pair of them gave me roughly a 4 metre range. Bearing in mind that they're only actually 400mW, not 3W as claimed, I was quite impressed.
I ran them from a 3V3 buck converter powered from the 5V pin on the GPIO connector, and a pair in parallel only pulled around 240mA at 3.3V. I sourced them from a number of different suppliers at the time, and all of the "3W" modules were 400mW.
I'm using 730nm NOT 850nm
