My understanding is hdparm is not a benchmark to compare storage but intended to verify that the correct DMA level was set for PATA drives.Yes, agreed!frankly, I would buy an SSD or NVME drive to use with a Pi 5.
I have a Pi 5 booting via USB from an SSD, I am constantly surprised how fast it boots and runs.
But, I think the NVMe Gen 3 interface its faster than USB 3 though.
My Samsung 990 Pro card reports:What does your USB connected SSD say?Code:
$ sudo hdparm -t /dev/nvme0n1p2/dev/nvme0n1p2: Timing buffered disk reads: 2602 MB in 3.00 seconds = 866.80 MB/sec$
