Beginners • Not sure what is up with my new RP5

I have been going through tutorials learning about the basics since I am a newbie to all this. I was doing really well, and even taking notes along the way. I liked the fact that the OS for the RP5 could easily be reinstalled if I accidentally deleted something I shouldn’t. I have the Imager on my windows machine and I have Putty installed as well. I also have the PI connected to a monitor and a mouse but I have been using SSH on Putty to access the PI so I could copy and paste easily from tutorials and my notes too.

I used a command to create a folder in the media folder as I was planning on connecting it to my NAS but not thinking, I named it the same name as the username. Then when I was trying to access that folder I realized what I had done. I could not get to it, it kept saying folder or directory not found. I deleted the folder on the desktop but for whatever reason, I could not access any of the folders. I tried the “ls” command and it showed me all the names of the folders /home/user/ and the other folders below that were all listed: desktop, media, bookshelf etc. but when i tried to CD to any of them, it said the folder and directory was not found. I was careful to use the correct syntax which I had successfully used before and had even documented in my notes.

I decided I must have corrupted something so I set about downloading the OS from Raspberry PI onto the micro sd using imager, I had no issue installing the 64 bit version, updating the PI’s OS, and using Sudo Raspi-Config to configure everything as I did before, but to no avail, I still have the exact same issue. I have google and search for help but I don’t see anything that is exactly like this.

I am up to 4 re-installs now and I am at my wit’s end. It just does not make sense. Is there something I am forgetting?

I posted once before on this forum and was told I did not give enough information so I tried to be detailed but I am happy to provide more if you need further clarification.
