Troubleshooting • PCF8591 Calibration

Hello all, thanks for reading!

I have the little X-Y joystick through a PCF8591 A/D converter to the GPIO of a Raspberry Pi 4B.

The output from pcf8591 is erratically unusable. It's not linear or normally exponential. It goes up and down while moving the joystick the same direction. There's lots of dead spots. etc.

I can post my code and/or examples of my output. I used extremely simple code I found online.

Does anyone have experience with the joystick and pcf8591? Is the erratic output normal? Is the erratic output a function of my 'simple code'? The pcf8591 has a pot and photoresistor, does it need to be calibrated or adjusted?

My ultimate goal is use the joystick to output a linear 1-10 (or 1-5). Am I asking too much of an A/D converter?

Thank you!
