Which "it" aew you referring to. AIUI the Pi can't do STA+AP mode.

It can, and it's perfect for this very specific use-case. It's *extrremely* limited -- both networks must be on the same channel, and the AP can't handle very many clients -- but it works, and is great for this sort of thing.
