It is kinda the same here. Future will tell if 2030 will be 2G's end. SIM7020 is a breeze of the future NB-IoT. Instead of buying SIM800L just to play with it, I have Sony Ericsson phones instead. T630 and Vivaz. They accept AT commands as well, so it will be applicable to SIM module as well. You need to check datasheet. Other than UART or CDC USB for Vivaz (still to try), there is Bluetooth, and Vivaz (Bluetooth 2.1) can connect to Pico W's CYW43439 - BTstack examples got you covered. T630's 1.0b Bluetooth is to low: https://groups.google.com/g/btstack-dev/c/ey_2--9PLQ8. I guess error comes from hardware layer. So old phones are an option as well. And as old as Nokia 3310. A bit newer is Nokia 6310: https://ilias.giechaskiel.com/posts/ard ... index.html. They have UART also, but protocol is different. There is no convenience of AT commands. I want to try it as well, since I have Nokia 6310(i - maybe). That gnokii program will help. And virtual null modem connection to spy on the communication.
