I'm posting here in case anyone has the same issue auto disabling Wifi power saving.
I followed the instructions here

to create a service to auto disable power saving.
Whilst this did work .. it had the unfortunate side effect of preventing my bluetooth devices from ever connecting properly.
The symptoms of this would be I could watch the bluetooth devices connect and then immediately disconnect for no apparent reason.
All very strange.
As soon as I removed the new wifi power management service - bluetooth devices could connect again.
