The general rule is that the best editor to use is the one that runs on your hardware, handles the formats you need it to, and that you are most familiar with.
Without knowing more about your use case I can't advise further.
For markdown, any text editor can handle it. Unless you want to preview the markdown formatting. On RPiOS that could be nano (or vi
