Pis, especially used Pis, are so cheap, so may I make a rather off-topic suggestion:
If you want to run a Pi-based NAS AND Pi-hole to use both "in production" (and not just an exercise in Pi-playing): then keep things simple, and keep things SEPARATE! This is especially true as both a NAS and Pi-hole will presumably impact all other devices on your network - you don't want them going down when tinkering. So, I suggest:
(a) Get a used, old (e.g.) Pi2B for a few quid, and put Pi-hole on that, and
(b) Keep your NAS uncluttered and run that on a different Pi altogether.
When one goes down - because you're fiddling with it - it won't affect the other.
