In case of interest- I tried putting two cheap Amscope 4x microscope objectives back-to-back, for a simple 1:1 macro lens. They're only $23 each, and I guess you get what you pay for. Even in the region of best focus, the image is not exactly crisp at the pixel level. I also measured the image scale at 1.64 microns per pixel instead of the expected 1.55 microns of the IMX477 sensor in the HQ camera, so I think my sensor-to-lens spacing was not perfect- no surprise as I just eyeballed it. Anyway it does "sort of" work.
