The general recommendation from Pi Towers is libgpiod for C and gpiozero for Python.

So you are all ok with the gpiozero backends that write directly to registers?
How does that differ from what pinctrl does?
Or are you assuming that gpiozero will generally default to lgpio and so use the kernel interface?
