I'm using Bookworm lite with manually installed packages pulseaudio pulseaudio-module-bluetooth to connect bluetooth speakers. Without that I would simply use alsa output for mpd.
Mpd is running as system daemon with my setup. The mpd config file is below /etc in this case. No user needs to login to start mpd.
I enabled autologin to CLI to make puseaudio and bluetooth work.
Mpd with alsa output should just work, if there is noone else trying to make sound at the same time and no desktop running (with pulseaudio or pipewire).
Mpd can use pulseaudio from a session of a different user (you have to add more configuration for that) or from a session of the same user.
Mpd can use pipewire only from a session of the same user.
