True, however as Eirikur pointed out they make fabulous backup media. I boot/run from SSD and run daily backups via rsync to an appropriately sized microSD. Every so often I swap the microSD, to keep offline backups. Tiny, easy, cheap. With once a day writes and low rate of change I have had no issues with curability and no performance impacts since the backups are scheduled for late at night.Currently using a 512 GB uSD on a Pi 5. Not by choice, but it's what I had on hand until an SSD arrives.
The bigger they are, the more stuff you'll lose when the go kaput.
SSDs will last much longer and will give you better performance too.
