Graphics, sound and multimedia • Re: Pi3B+, Raspbian, VLC, video files

I switched back to the pi 4B because it handles VLC playlists better than the 3. I don't know if I stated this already, but I'm using a swap disk made from a sandisk cruzer using gnome disk utility. that seems to help lots. I expanded the filesystem using raspi-config and that did not seem to help much. Setting each individual setting in Chromium and Firefox to have it leave me alone and not load stuff I don't tell it to helped the most. Separate Lakka and desktop cards are required for the 3 and the 4. Don't let anyone tell you differently because I ran an experiment where all I changed was the pi.

I recently purchased some cheap external hard drives on ebay and the only thing they will do is raspberry pi system image. They are 2TB and say SSD on the computers (win + linux) but HDD on the box. They came in exfat format and will not format to NTFS on windows 7. They will also not go from M abbreviation to G abbreviation in the drive and raid management software. I'm currently writing one for the 800-900MB distribution of raspbian 64 bit without software. It is at 77% after 12 hours.

The 3B+ is now part of a "portable" game emulator. I have the 7" screen, a Facmogu mini stereo amp and 4" speakers in wood cabinets that I made from scrap. It plays the standard, obvious stuff on Lakka like SNES and Genesis. My Castlevania Symphony of the Night PSx disk image won't run on it and it prefers PSxReARMed over Swanstation, where the 4 was the other way. Saturn games are running too slow on the 3 where they were slow, but playable on the 4. I've got a copy of Legend of Dragoon and know which scenes are most demanding, so I can test that if I remember.

Game emulator system images are a joke. If you have the games on a drive, Lakka is the only one that will let you load them. It ends there for me, except Lakka settings. Raspbian images become a joke when you're orienting toward video. I remember having issues with the "lite" versions, but 64 bit without software is the next step and recommended software would only be bloatware in this case.

I guess I'm continuing to post what I find here when I decide it's time. Maybe someone can learn something from my words. I will try to keep it explanation of what I'm doing and what is working, but can't exclude my writing and thought style.
