As has been mentioned in other threads, if you are using a DC to DC converter, it most likely has a voltage adjustment pot. Especially with one like the one shown above (with a large/easy to bump adjustment shaft), it is highly recommended to secure it so it does not get bumped/adjusted and smoke the Pi. I like silicon or hot glue, since it is permanent, until you need to remove it if you want to readjust. This is less of a concern with the trimmer pot styles with a recessed adjustment.
